What is openness?

I've been keeping a beady eye on all the posts appearing with their visual representations defining openness in education. There's a mind-boggling array of tools out there and some great ideas - this in itself is starting to define openness I guess - a group of random people brought together by a common theme inspired to share ideas and learn from each other...

Anyway, having decided to do a tag cloud, largely due to lack of time, I then realised there were already quite a few of those. So instead, tried to define openness by what it ISN'T. If something isn't open, is it necessarily closed? Is there an opposite of OPEN education?

If it's not OPEN, does that mean it's....?

When doing this exercise I was encouraged by the idea that '..the low production quality of little OERs has the effect of encouraging further participation' (Weller, 2012) So, please feel free to comment....
